Pray For Your Husband: 31 Day Challenge–Day Fourteen

Day Fourteen: That he would have fearless contentment in Christ.

Hebrews 13:5-6 “Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you or forsake you.” So we can confidently say, ‘The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?'”

With the God-given responsibility of being the head of the home, there is no doubt an overwhelming burden on our husbands to provide in many ways–spiritually, emotionally, and financially to name a few. They (along with us) face the deceptive desires to love money and to desire what others have. Let’spray for the truth that God will never leave or forsake us to anchor our husbands to Jesus. If we have Jesus, we don’t need to love money or love what others have.

Jesus, you know what we need. You know we need deep contentment in you and we will be exceedingly rich. As the husband bears a heavy financial burden to provide for our families, there is a natural lure to covet and to love money. Will you remind our husbands today that You will never leave us or forsake us, and if we have you, we have everything we need. Be his Helper today coming alongside him in ways that we fail or fall short. Make him fearlessly content in You. Jesus you are enough for him and for us, make our hearts believe this. In your matchless name, Amen.

7 Ways to Lead “Unleadable” People in a Church

Helpful advice. I think us younger pastors are prone to make hopeless statements like this. I appreciate Dr. Rainer’s advice.

7 Ways to Ruin a Prayer Meeting

I especially appreciate #1. In Baptist circles we can think that preparing for a prayer meeting is somehow against the Spirit. Not so.

Ann Coulter and Our Mission

The statements of Coulter, Trump, and Carson help us to see that Christianity doesn’t totally mesh with conservatism.

Pray For Your Husband: 31 Day Challenge–Day Thirteen

Day Thirteen: That he would find his worth in Christ alone

And because of him you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, righteousness and sanctification and redemption, so that, as it is written, “Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord.” ~1 Corinthians 1:30-31

I enjoy listening to the playful banter that often takes place when men gather. Lots of rib poking and baritone laughter. Lighthearted camaraderie at its finest and one of the few times I have thought it would be great to be “one of the guys”. At times like these, however, I have sometimes seen the joking take a turn down a darkened path. It happens when camaraderie is overshadowed by competition, and boasting presides over banter. One man asks, “Did I tell you about my _____________ (<—fill in the blank with some possession)?” only to have the other reply, “Oh yeah, I’ve got two of those.” Oneupmanship can spoil an otherwise wonderful day… or friendship. How much better it is to be firmly convinced that all our worth is complete in Christ and that, should we boast, it is only in the Lord Jesus.

Father, I lift my husband up before you with all his yearnings and desires, his longing for affirmation. I pray, Lord, that you would show him in your Word where his worth lies. Remind him of his standing in Christ. Speak truth to his questioning heart. Give him confidence to boast – but to boast only in the Lord. Work sanctification in him, Jesus, that he might model this to his family and friends and that your name would be glorified. Amen

9 Reasons We Can Be Confident Christians Won’t Be Raptured Before the Tribulation

You’ll be hearing a good deal about the rapture in the coming days with Nicolas Cage’s new Left Behind movie. I tend to agree that Christians won’t be raptured. Here are nine reasons why.

In Heaven, Can There Be Thrills without Risk?

This is an interesting question. I’ve always hoped that baseball would be present in heaven—but wondered what that would look like. At the end of the day Jesus will be there and that is all that matters, but questions like this are fun to ponder.
