My Five Favorite Christmas Songs

‘Tis the season.

If our record player hadn’t gotten damaged in the move, I’m confident we’d be hearing Bing Crosby bellow throughout our house. My wife absolutely loves Christmas music and will even play it in June. I like Christmas music but not until November. Here are my five favorite Christmas songs.

5. Carol of the Bells by August Burns Red

I love metal. I love Carol of the Bells. Put the two together and you’ve got Christmas-time awesomeness. (Found on this album)

4. A Holly Jolly Christmas by Burl Ives

I honestly think this song is ridiculous but it makes my top 4 because I love to sing it along with my son and really punctuate the “kiss her once for me” line.

3. Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas

For some reason this one tugs on my heart strings. I think it has to do with Home Alone, but I’m not certain.

2. The Chipmunks Song

I loved it as a kid and love listening to it with my own kids. We really like listening to the original vinyl record.

1. O Come, O Come Emmanuel by Shane & Shane

This is the best Christmas song I’ve ever heard. To me it captures the beauty of the Incarnation. I like to sing some of the ones like Joy to the World and such but this one more than any others puts my focus on Christ at Christmas. (That whole Shane & Shane Christmas album is great)
