  1. I struggle with the church growth thing. Growth in numbers is a common and acceptable American standard of measurement when it comes to church “success”. I am part of a reformed mission work in an area with very little exposure to such doctrine, and our numerical growth has been uneven at best and halting at worst. Still, the growth within the members has been steady and fruit bearing. What of churches in areas of the world (Japan comes to mind) where missionaries (and that is what church planters are I guess) labor year upon year with little numerical evidence to demonstrate their labors were not in vain? I don’t know. Like I said, I struggle with this.
