Pray For Your Son: 31 Day Challenge—Day Three

Today’s prayer comes from Dave Fields:

That he would hear and heed the Lord in the voice of his parents

Hear, my son, your father’s instruction, and forsake not your mother’s teaching, for they are a graceful garland for your head and pendants for your neck. (Proverbs 1:8-9, ESV)

In our media-saturated world, our children will hear many messages from a myriad of voices each day. Some of these voices echo the voice of the Lord—others are serpentine. Often the hardest voice to listen to is the one of their father and mother. The world often says that father and mother are old-fashioned and ill-informed about today’s pressing issues. We need to pray that our children have parents that echo the voice of the Lord, and that our children would heed our gospel-informed voice.

Father, we pray today that our son will hear our voices as parents more clearly and more certainly than those in the world.  We further pray that we will use messages that are full of Your wisdom and Your grace and that they will fall on ears that are eager to listen.  We pray that they will indeed be adornments upon the neck and head of our son this day and that there will be a renewed spirit of communication between he and us.  We pray that we will only speak that which is from you and that he will listen with an open heart.  We pray for our son today, Lord to hear you through us as his parents.  Amen.

Dave Fields and his family serve as missionaries on the north coast of Honduras at hospital Loma de Luz.  Dave is the IT director of the hospital.

  1. Lord, I pray for the inclinations of my sons that they would heed the instruction of me and my wife. To that end, I pray that you would not allow us to misinstruct them. Teach them through us as your servants that they would ultimately follow you as a more secure foundation for their faith. I pray that you would use us to equip them to navigate unswayed the spiritual perils and allures of this world in such a way that they are instead refined by them for your service.

  2. Thanks – I really need my children to listen at times, and I need to learn to communicate more graciously

  3. Thank you Lord for all these inspiring prayers. My heavenly father please use us all , parents that we are weak and shatter, for we are nothing without you Lord. WE Know we can’t do anything through our works, our children think we are ancient history n know nothing or do not understand them.
