Pray For Your Son: 31 Day Challenge—Day One

This is actually the same prayer that we began the Pray For Your Wife Challenge with. It is, I believe, the greatest thing that we can pray for those that we love.

Day one begins now:

Day One: That He Would Have an Abiding Satisfaction in God

You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore. –Psalm 16:11

The greatest thing that we can pray for our sons is that they will be eternally satisfied in God. At His right hand is where pleasure is to be found, and in His presence alone fullness of joy is to be found; for our sons to drink from any other fountain will only multiply his sorrows (Psalm 16:4). Therefore, we must pray that our sons find their deepest satisfaction in God

Father, I pray that you would cause my son to find his deepest satisfaction in You. Rescue him from looking to other things to find satisfaction and pleasures. Help me to lead him in my enjoyment of You. At your right hand is where joy is found. Help us to truly believe this and live accordingly. In Jesus name, Amen.

Pray For Your Son: Update

I thought it might be beneficial to give everyone a quick rundown of how this will work.

Every Morning

Lord willing, every morning before 9am ET, I will post to the Facebook group a status including a verse, a short commentary, and a sample prayer. Your task will be to comment on that status with your own prayer or simply “like” the post as a means of accountability.

I am thankful for several volunteers that have written prayers and short devotions for their son(s). We have people from all walks of life. Some of you are praying for an expectant child while others are praying for adult children. I’ve received prayers from a wide range of parents. Praying for your son is different than praying for your wife. For one, you might have several sons and only one wife. For the sake of consistency we will write the prayers in the singular. You can switch it to plural if you have more sons. It’s impossible to write widely enough and still be coherent. Therefore, adapt the prayers as you deem necessary.

I also challenge you to pray for the other parents in this group. Rather than just praying a general prayer, I would encourage you to click on the link that reveals our group members. Pick 5-10 random people and pray specifically for these men and women that they would be the mothers and fathers that God calls them to be, and that they would find their lasting satisfaction in God.

Blog Followers

There have also been a few people that have indicated they would like to accept this prayer challenge but are not on Facebook. Have no fears. Simply follow Borrowed Light and I’ll post the verse, commentary, and sample prayer before 9:00am ET every day.

For your accountability you can simply comment on the blog post. I’ll commit to praying for those that comment…and if you see other guys commenting on the blog post be sure to pray for them as well.

Keep It Going

I would also encourage you to keep inviting your friends. Furthermore, I want to encourage you to interact with one another throughout this challenge. Feel free to post some of your struggles. Post answers to our prayers. And please give us even more specific prayers.

Let’s stand in awe of how God is going to change our hearts and work and move in our lives through His gift of prayer.

How to Turn Your Desk Into a Whiteboard

photo

Before writing any sermon, teaching material, article, or outline I map it out on a piece of paper. I cannot think on a computer. I need open space. Hence the stack of notebooks on my desk.

Awhile back I got the crazy idea (I think through seeing something online) to turn my desk into a whiteboard. Last week I finally did it. I bought a can of dry erase paint and got to work. Here is how:

  1. Make sure it’s Friday.
  2. Clean your desk. (For some of us this is the most difficult part).
  3. Make sure that it’s really clean. I mean really clean.
  4. Put on a couple coats of white primer.
  5. Get really loopy off the fumes.
  6. Write several articles that make no sense while waiting for it to dry.
  7. Wake up from fume-induced coma.
  8. Mix & Apply special Dry Erase paint. Apply a couple coats.
  9. Wait over the weekend, dreaming about the awesomeness that awaits you.
  10. Come back to work on Monday and fulfill your childhood dream of writing on desk.

I’ve had my super amazing desk for over a week now and I love it. I’m not wasting tons of paper writing little meaningless notes. I also have a bigger space to dream, draw pictures, and connect my thoughts. And let’s be honest. It’s really fun to write on your desk.

Furthermore, this has helped in counseling and teaching sessions in my office. I’ve benefited from being able to write something out or draw pictures. It’s also good if you have little children, like I do, that like to play in your office.

If you decide to turn your desk into a whiteboard I have a few tips for you.

Tips:

  • Don’t throw away your notepads. You’ll still need them occasionally.
  • Erase daily.
  • Make sure that you keep your arms, clothes, etc. away from your writing area.
  • Before starting the project make sure the paint is not outdated. (That’s the problem for many of the people on Amazon—hence the poor reviews)
  • Apply a generous amount of primer, especially if your desk is a darker wood.
  • Use low odor dry-erase markers.
  • Erase with a rag.
  • Enjoy

Today in Blogworld 09.30.01

In order to be consistent with this article, Don’t Make You Audience Throw Up, for the month of October I will not be doing the Today in Blogworld feature. Instead of posting the TiB I will be posting the Pray For Your Son Challenge. In place of TiB I will provide a list of links on Saturday. I apologize for any inconvenience.
