Why do Some Pastors Deliberately Avoid Teaching Doctrine?

It really is dereliction of duty.

4 Myths About Sermon Length

Interesting suggestion in that fourth one. My goal is always for it to feel like about twenty minutes. Not sure I always accomplish that…but I know I’d rather leave people wanting more than desiring less.

I was helped by this article. (See what I did there?) Also I’m terrible about this.

Does Jesus Really Want Me to Hate My Family?

This is a question I’ve received often.

Quick and simple thought but it really made me pause and think.

Very helpful questions at the end.

I really appreciate Bruce Hindmarsh as a historian.

Is there a biblical defense of free speech?

Interesting thoughts.

The fact that Alex Gordon isn’t in this is a tragedy…he could have six minutes by himself (or 15). But Bo Jackson did make three appearances in this best outfield throws of all time video so I’ll share it:

  1. We’ve been members of four different Reformed Baptist churches in three different states over the last 18 years. In each of them, a typical sermon was 45-55 minutes long. Just so you know where I’m coming from.
I think the man preaching should exposit the passage in the amount of time it needs. If it takes more time than he wants to talk, split it into two Sundays. If it takes less, then people get to visit with each other sooner. But take the time it takes. Teach and apply it. We hearers love God’s Word, and we look to you to help us love it more and live it better. If that’s 30 minutes, okay, but feel free to take an hour, if that’s what it takes.
