Revelation 5 and Motivation for Missions

I’ve heard quite a few sermons on evangelism in my day. And if I’m being honest most of them left me feeling guilty rather than enthralled with Christ. Truth be told in most instances I was left alone and not in the Savior’s hand. And as Bryan Chapell has noted:

“Whether people depart alone or in the Savior’s hand will mark the difference between futility and faith, legalism and true obedience, dogoodism and real godliness”

Awhile back I was given the task of beginning a sermon series on Gospel Advancement. I wanted to avoid the typical “go do evangelism sermon”. And so I preached on a text that has always encouraged me to engage in missions; namely, Revelation 5.

Here is how I handled that text and encouraged our church to join the mission of God:

I’ve decided to do a little more to bridge the gap between my writing ministry and my ministry here at First Baptist Jasper. To this end I’ll occasionally post sermons that I’ve preached in the past that I believe may be helpful to others.
